Now that winter is coming up, it is a good time to think about giving the fireplace a face lift. The photo above is a great idea. Consider changing the proportion to a wider, elevated fireplace for a lounge like atmosphere.

Consider placing a television of to the side, on a swivel mount. It won't be the focal point and draw attention away from the fireplace, but will still be easy to watch.

A fireplace is a great place to explore materials that may not fit in other areas of the house. This example features a small stone fireplace surround with wood paneling on either side. Spot lights cast a gentle light to highlight the fireplace.
