Bold Patterns, Everywhere
Many new kitchens and bathrooms have been going quite bold by using patterned tile floors, walls, and backsplashes. These lively tiles are both contemporary and vintage and when mixed with modern cabinetry and details, can result in a truly show stopping look. These tiles are durable, easy to clean, and have endless designs; so why wouldn’t you want to use these in your next home project?
What Is Encaustic Tile
Encaustic tile may be trending at the moment, but they are not new; these bold rustic tiles have been around for centuries. Encaustic tiles are made using two or more different colors of clay in the body of the tile. This means that the patterns you see are integral to the tile – rather than painted or glazed onto the surface – meaning the design won’t wear off. Traditional encaustic tile, which you’ll see throughout Europe, is made of clay, and is, in other words: ceramic tile. Nowadays, modern encaustic tile is often made from cement rather than clay, so you’ll often hear it referred to as cement tile as well.
Fresh And New
Forget the plain white floor tiles of the past! Today’s floor tile designs have exciting and bold patterns and are being used in fresh new ways to create stunning interior designs. While tiles have always been a popular option for bathrooms, kitchens, and entry ways due to their ability to withstand heavy wear and tear and water, it is their use in bedrooms, dining rooms, and living rooms which is new.
Small Space, Big Personality
Whether you opt for the traditional encaustic tiles, Moroccan inspired tiles, modern geometric, or other patterned tiles, the key to pulling off this fresh new look is to let the tiles be the ‘hero’ of the room. This creates a modern look packed with character and artistic flair, and allows these modern spaces to feel more warm and inviting than if just marble or plain tile were used. Patterned tile gives any small space big personality while adding a sense of nostalgia and quality craftsmanship to the design.
